Boy Bedroom Overhaul With Built in Bunk Beds

The time had come to finally redo my two son's bedroom. They are 6 and 4, and it had not been redone since they were babies. My youngest still had a toddler bed. They needed new organization, better toy storage. Their needs for play space was very different then when they were toddlers.
Most importantly they needed beds. I decided to challenge myself even more and redid this bedroom in 6 weeks as part of the One room challenge. It was a hectic 6 weeks but it kept me motivated to not drag on this project.
I made built in bunk beds, a Lego table, upcycled a few pieces of furniture to better suit the space and toy storage needed now. I created a reading nook for my budding little reader and finally had a place to put my sons drum set. This is the reveal of the space and I will be breaking down individual project over the next few weeks.

Here is the finished beds! I decided to go the route of making them because I wanted them sturdy enough to handle two active boys. I also liked the idea of them being big enough for them to grow into. Both my husband and I were on the top bunk bed working on it and it hold both of us with no issues. We can sit on the beds and not feel squished.

This is what the bedroom looked like.
I added new lighting, and valances. Painted the room a light beige and the trim white.
This gallery wall is full of DIY pieces. I wanted to make this bedroom be personal for the boys so they got to help me create a look for their bedroom.
This table works as a play station and a Lego storage. The bins are full of Lego, and the green trays are for Lego building. The shelf on the wall is for Lego that is built and the boys want to keep to play with or display.
I wanted there to be designated areas in the room. This will help each boy pick what they want to do. Also ease of clean up, each item has a place.
The rope ladder was not my initial pan, but works perfectly within the space. It is tight and secure so my son has no issue climbing up and down on it.
Each boy has their own shelf to put little personal treasures and items. They also have their own light.
This little drum kit takes up a lot of space, but with the new configuration of the bedroom my boys have space to rock out! The bright wall art on the wall here were posters that I made the frame and rope hook for.
I painted this toy shelf and purchased new baskets for it. Now the toy storage here functions better.
This is the perfect little way to add some more toy organization. Also a much needed space for my youngest sons skateboards to go. He insists on having them in his bedroom.
I added the vintage cars and airplanes in this room to help along the transportation theme. I did not want this bedroom to feel to little boy, and be something they can grow into. Using the bold colors and patterns makes it feel fresh and ok for bigger boys.
The play space is perfect for my boys needs right now. They have floor space as well as a table for Lego building, car racing, blocks, or homework. I tried to keep things organized and put away so that they have plenty of space to play, run and be all boy.
This bedroom redo accomplished all I was hoping to. It is a mix of new build, upcycles, thrift store finds, and new purchases. I like to mix things up and have a little bit of everything. I will have full tutorials for most of the items in here over the next few weeks. I plan to post them here as well as on my blog, Our house now a home.
