A few weeks ago we added some new Ikea curtains to our living and dining area, but I’ve been hesitant to share because I’m so unhappy with the way my photos turned out. I’m bit of a perfectionist (and cry baby) when it comes to my pictures, and even though I’ve never taken a photography class in my life, I somehow feel like my photos need to be perfect. That said, I really like the way the curtains look, so I decided to share anyway with the disclaimer that interior photography is something I still need a lot of practice with.About a year ago we had Hunter Douglas faux wood blinds installed (which we still love) and I knew right away that I also wanted to add some simple white drapery panels to bring a little warmth and softness into the room. But priorities change and time flies. Before I knew it, a year had passed. I still wanted the curtains, but for several reasons it was important that I didn’t spend a lot of money on the look.
I decided to head to Ikea because I’ve always known them to have inexpensive drapery options with really long lengths to choose from. Our ceilings are 9 feet tall so a standard 84 or 96 inch curtain panel wasn’t going to work for me. Sure enough I found the Ritva Collection at Ikea. A simple white linen curtain which came at 118 inches long. I didn’t need them to be that long so I just took them to my local dry cleaner and had them hemmed to the length I wanted.
For the drapery rods I went to Lowe’s. I’ve used their Allen & Roth collection all over our house and it has become my favorite go-to collection for inexpensive drapery hardware. They are extension rods, which despite being considered unfavorable in the design world, actually look quite decent for the price.
