A bit of information that I haven't shared with anyone about how this room came to be. (other than what is stated on my blog). I have twins, one of which is autistic. We made the decision to build this home, based mostly on that fact.
See, he is non verbal and has quite a few sensory disorders. He also functions socially at a toddler level. (meaning he does things that a 2 year old would do - run naked through the house, squeal when excited, etc.) but he is 12 now. Needless to say, I often attract quite a few stares. But, I have learned to live with. (it's the occasional nasty comments that send me over the edge). ;-)
Anyway, like most 12 year olds, he loves the movie theater. Unfortunately, the squeals and excitement that he displays doesn't go over so well with other people trying to enjoy the show. And I don't blame them. I don't like to hear noise when I pay for a ticket, either.
So, when designing this house, I designed it with him in mind. This home theater, while quite the show piece for my "typical" twin, was in fact created to allow my "autistic" twin a chance to enjoy the theater experience.
On a side note - I have come to loathe Laurie Berkner videos. ;-) (if you don't know what I mean, just watch some of her on youtube. Then imagine hours of that over and over on a huge screen with theater sound.)
