In The Frame - No.2

A week ago I found 2 plastic picture frames in Mom's shop and bought them for $3. The plan was to refinish them to fit our decoration. Three days ago, I completed the first frame's makeover and shared it with you on our blog.

The first one turned out pretty nice in white, but with the second frame, I had a different vision. Since Thanksgiving is approaching, I wanted to use this frame for a Thanksgiving printable that I prepared. I thought it would look good with softer earthy colors.
Here is a before picture of the frame no.2. With its silverish color, it doesn't have much appeal to it, but we'll see how that will change.

Unfortunately, I again forgot to take pictures during the painting process, but here is how I did it: first I took the frame apart so I wouldn't mistakenly paint the pre-cut matting. Then I put two coats of my homemade chalk paint in Sherwin Williams Birchwood color to both frames - the main frame and the inner frame. After the paint dried, I applied some glaze to antique it.

When painting and antiquing was done, I put the whole thing together just to see that something was missing... Yes, the paint made the frame look better, but not really how I wanted it. See what I mean?

So I took it apart again to play around with the pre-cut matting. While different ideas were flashing in my mind, I remembered that I had a yard of green burlap lying in my craft room closet. I placed the painted frames next to the green burlap and right then I knew what was missing!
I cut a piece from the green-grey burlap and grabbed the Mod Podge Original Matte. I applied some Mod Podge on the pre-cut matting and I laid the green-grey burlap on top. After positioning the burlap in the way I wanted, I left it to dry for about an hour.

Then I cut the inner part of the burlap...

... and put the entire frame together. Now this is exactly how I envisioned it to be!

It looks much better, don't you agree?

And here are some close-ups from different angles.
