Modern Wall Organizer DIY

For less than twenty bucks, let's DIY a modern wall organizer!

So sick and tired of the clutter on our sad kitchen cart, and in slow preparation for making the wall the cart sits against functional, it was time to get a grip on the mess.

Your supplies can vary as needed. I started with a 2'x4'x1/4" piece of birch plywood that I cut in half. One half for the organizer, one half to make all the little boxes.

I used 1x2 as framing on the back, placing it on face. As I was going for a no-seen-fasteners look, everything was glued. Come read all the nitty gritty details about this project along with lots of other cool stuff over on my blog at humboldtartdept.blogspot.com.

Next was deciding the parts for the organizer: little catch-all boxes, shelves, hooks for keys, cork, a magnetic area...all pieces and parts found for cheap.

I changed my design along the way several times but before attaching everything, I laid it all out to make sure it was what I wanted and it would function as intended.

Next I added a stripe of yellow since hey, yellow is fun, yellow is my favorite, and there's a yellow wall near where this was going to hang. Ya know, tie all the yellow together. I also painted the wood knobs yellow.

Once the paint was dry, it was time to attach everything.

Keeping with the no-seen-fasteners look, I pilot drilled from behind and along with glue, used tiny screws. Yeah, goofed a couple times. Oops. Items can just as easily be glued alone but considering our high traffic location, I went with the added security of screws.

Using keyhole brackets made the organizer sturdy on the wall. Use that handy tape trick (check out my blog!) to get the organizer level and in the right spot.

Make sure your handy assistant is around for moral support.

Next, retrain my husband to use it. But there we have it! A super handy, modern wall organizer that's totally customizable to keep the junk piles at bay! Bonus: it's on a wall which is perfect for small or limited spaces!
