We've introduced you to our DIY deck makeover project before. But one of our favorite features out there is our outdoor lighting DIY. We made an outdoor chandelier/pendant light fixture out of some vintage tin cans.My grandparents had passed, and their home was about to be sold. While visiting their house for the last time, we were out in Grandpa's garage...just remembering, and looking for some small token...some kind of small memory to hold onto. And I spotted these vintage cans. You can see them at the bottom right corner of the picture, above.
As you probably tell, Grandpa was very organized. Everything in it's place, and a place for everything. He held onto old containers and used them to stash nuts or bolts, what-have-you.
I grabbed the cans. My Dad thought I was nuts. I told him "No, Dad" "This coffee can has nuts (and bolts) in it, but I assure you, I am still (for the most part) in my right mind." "What in the world are you going to do with that junk?" he asked. I didn't really know. But I packed the rusted cans in my small carry-on, and they flew with me back to Maryland. We were in the middle of our deck project, at the time. And I knew that I wanted to do something unique for outdoor lighting. As the plane pulled back into D.C., my lighting plan was coming together. After a bit of cleaning, we got to work. We've written out the step by step instructions, and listed all the supplies you'll need to try this project yourselves over on the blog.
It's not hard, but you have to have knowledge of working with electricity to do this...otherwise, it's NOT safe to DIY.Above is the BEFORE of our deck, and a glimpse of the AFTER below. And below is the installed "can-delier".
The most important supply you'd need to tackle this project (besides the cans) is this outdoor rated pendant light cord kit.Hope you like it!Original article and pictures take http://www.hometalk.com/11122641/diy-tin-can-chandelier-you-can-do-it site
