Rescued Military Footlocker

I found the top half of an old soldiers footlocker cabinet in a military surplus booth a few weeks ago. After talking to the man who had them, he explained they used to sit at the end of soldier's cots and had metal bases. They were used as storage and as a makeshift desk to write letters home.

So I loaded it up and brought it home.

Drew up a plan to build a new base.

Cut, glued and nailed

Dry fitting the frame.

The base needed to have an old metal look to it, as the original would have been. So I went with a trusted favorite Modern Master's Metal Effects.

Primer, Iron Paint and Activator

Use some blank wooden knobs and cut stencils.

Stripped, sanded and finished the rest.

And I love how it turned out.
